t i know you dont have to have any certification to do hypnosis unless its being used for medical purposes so is nlp the same way or different.

Depends where you are, and what you are doing.

Consider this, almost anyone, almost anywhere can be a “life coach” or do personal coaching.

On the other hand, stating that you can diagnose or cure any diagnosis is probably regulated just about everywhere.

When in doubt, ask people in your area who are doing what you want to do with it, or visit a local business incubation center and ask them who you could ask and get an honest answer.

I have been reading up on NLP and some of it seems pretty far fetched. Does anyone have any experiences with NLP that have made them think that it does work?

Well, I’m not sure what you’ve been reading about NLP, or how much experience you have with psychology, but the ideas aren’t exactly “out there”. Bandler and Grinder took established methods, put them together based on instinct and added some new stuff. The effects achieved aren’t new. In fact, most people see NLP as wacky because you can get results with it in hours, not months. Like with anything new, it’s heavily criticized, but I’ve had experiences with it, and I believe it works.

Tell her stories. Metaphorical stories* about people who had to work hard to get things they really wanted.
Don’t make them too obvious, and don’t explain them. Just let her make the connections herself.
She will push herself as soon as she sees a reason to push, and explanations and exhortations will not help. Praise her when she does something good and ignore it when she only wants to play. Give her time and space.
