Good stuff - but I don’t call it NLP, just attitude. I think it helps to be experienced in street gang violence and have a few grudges, and / or be desensitised to brutality, but I think many of the students who take up martial arts lack that kind of experience which is why they’re anxious about their fighting skills. I think if you can convince the enemy you care less about their life or yours than they do, you’re half way there. And when you’re protecting someone else you can REALLY mean it.

REMEMBER…the best way to get knocked out…is by attempting to knock out someone else…you have to use alot more than just aggression and intent to win a fight…learn what u are good at (e.g. choke submissions, punch flurries, tackles, groin kicks, etc) and practice it for the rest of your life, then pray like hell that you can muster the heart to apply that skill in a real life street fight…

thanks for the reference to Daniel Goleman (not Goldberg) work on Emotional Intelligence

“a form of psychopathy” might be desirable in some situations

you’ve made your assertion that you believe “Anger” to be a poor choice of state to access in a fight clearly and thoroughly

However “Anger” isnt the topic of the video, that is your projection.

“Violent Intent” is.

Debate is great, but ultimately this method has worked for me and countless others.

Thats all that counts.

If i have used the word calm I will retract it, chances are if you are calm mid combat your suffering from some form of psychopathy.

But anger is single minded it doesn’t care whether you end up in jail, or even whether or not you survive the encounter. It can make a ferocious mindset, but also a poor fighter and a dead one at that.

The amygadala gets activated and ensures that the limbic system (the emotional brain) takes over and cuts of the neo-cortex; (our thinking system).

People in strong emotional states have their cognitive capabilities reduced.

Theirs plenty on this but Daniel Goldbergs “emotional intellegence” covers the topic very well adn it’s crammed full with refrences to studies in psychology and neurology.

Bob climbes into a plane, unfortunatly landing goes badly luckily he survives, no major trauma, he is very lucky, all he needs to do is get out of the plane. He tries to stand up but he cn’t he just can’t, he continius struggling panicing and confused.

In all the panic and confusion he had forgotten one fatal thing, he hadn’t undone his seat belt.

It’s called an emotional hi-jacking. Your brain makes a split second decision that the situation is one of extremes.

ps “outsidepers”

Im not sure why your saying “his other clips” when your talking to me mate, dont you mean “your other clips”?

all your other questions are covered in depth by the “core visualisation” and “Beta-8″ course - do you have any of my material?

pps if someone runs in and mounts a downed opponent, that is just bad training, nothing to do with psychology - train as you desire to fight- again covered in the Beta-8 course

if you fail to perform at an external level, none of this will make the blindest bit of difference

and I have a choice between 1. maybe freezing and 2. maybe going too far - I will take option 2 every time

I have gone too far before and believe me

I know the potential cost all too well

the flip side?

how about being fed liquified food for the rest of your brain dead life from being stomped on?

someone starts on me and wont drop it despite my best efforts?

fuck them

@reaper

“And this would work well if the user can in fact fight. ”

hahaha! it certainly wouldnt work too well if the user was clueless, he would just be a flailing jerry spriner style mess
;-)

interesting points, unsurprisingly : I dont agree

you can be aggressive and animalistic and still have higher brain functioning, the one does NOT preclude the other

I think your core point that this COULD lead to excessive force is valid but IMHO you are overcomplicating the issue and splitting hairs

having made the decision to “GO” it matters little whether your intent is violence/rage or as you put it to calmly “get the job done”- these things are all going on at an internal level

streetfightsecrets July 20, 2010 at 8:04 am

again, I agree

Take an example of an MMA fighter, when it comes to his final push to win he goes in with balls out aggression, nothing held back, but he is fueled by his desire to “do what must be done”; when the referee’s taps him, he knows “thats my cue to stop”. He knows it’s over becuase although he is nervous/ in an excited state; he is working on a proffesional basis, he has a job outside of tear the other guys face off and it doesn’t help for him to be a droolng, snarling animal.

Self defence extends beyond combat if you look at the other video’s he talks alot about defusing scenarios. Some factors to be considered are; how you are percieved? who is he with? When is the correct time to leave?
These factors are ignored by someone fuelled with anger or pride/indignation as the fight is no longer about survivial but rather restoring honour and getting back at the other guy. And these things can and will cloud your judgement of what is effective in comparison to cathartic.

Right, I don’t ascirbe to a higher path, I dont like the term reasonable force becuase as far as I am concerned you should not nedager yourself y using anything less than your full effort. My rpoblem with using emotions of rage and pride is that you may get to a position where your opponent is downed and you COULD get away, but your anger leads you to mount him instead, you then find his mates join in, or the fight ends both of you are apprehended and the court doesn’t look favourably at you.

reaperofgenocide July 28, 2010 at 9:46 pm

@streetfightsecrets a type of aggression or either fear would be imo a good thing to activate before the fight starts. This way you allow more adrenaline to empower you. And also keep constant meditative breaths and make sure to clear your mind and focus on the objective at hand. And this would work well if the user can in fact fight. Because although its all about mental ability. Ppl who train know about that mental ability & certain techniques such as a very fast low side kick to the knees :D

@streetfightsecrets maybe. But imo its fairly simple how this is self defense. Whether it brings good karma or bad karma. As i said before theirs many ways to do things, and its all about the individuals choice.

streetfightsecrets August 3, 2010 at 10:23 pm

I think “outsidepers” aspires to a higher path, maybe more along the buDO way you might get from aikido or tai chi, a higher path (without wanting to sound pretentious)

I cant teach that as I havent attained to that, Im more familiar with what used to be called buGEI as opposed to buDO

its raw, nasty, brings bad karma with it, but I see it as a necessary evil

if people CAN transcend beyond what Im teaching I wish them the best and then ask that they then teach me ;)

@outsidepers “That doesn’t mean it’s going to remove their aggression or their emotions but at least their thoughts are motivated towards survival rather than bashing the other morons face in before he/she gets aprehended by the police.”

Actually that is survival. Attack or be victimised. Im sure it happens all the time where people couldve fought back but instead had gotten beaten up. As i said there are many fighting mind sets.
